We adopted Schweitzer Elementary in the fall of 2018 and are excited to be able to help the students and staff in meaningful ways. We are also helping out throughout the year by providing Popsicles (on hot days, they have no AC), recycling bags, and more. Volunteers in any WWCS school must have background checks, we have the forms for this available in the lobby for your convenience. For more information you can contact our Coordinator Bill Leinenger at: BLeinenger@gmail.com. Here are a few initial opportunities to serve at Schweitzer Elementary:
Literacy Corp: There are a ton of kids who could use practice with identifying words and practicing reading. Mornings are best, but readers can schedule times that will work at their convenience and help anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours. The school will provide training and connect you with the students who need the most help.
Watch DOGS: There is a definite need for positive male role models and this program is designed to meet that need. You can volunteer for a half or full day and will be placed in 6-8 classrooms throughout the day where the staff will help you impact kids in meaningful ways!
Lunchroom Volunteers: There is an opportunity to help the staff and kids by serving in the lunchroom for an hour starting around 11:15 on any given day. Volunteers can help by opening packages for kids who struggle, rolling the trash bins to tables, just being a friend to a child, and more!
